Engine Management
In the first category, the pressure sensors enable you to achieve optimal engine conditions by determining Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) and Barometric Absolute Pressure (BAP) for the engine control unit. SMI offers two families of absolute pressure die for OEM and Aftermarket Automotive development. The SM5108C and SM5106 Series meet the application design standards. The SM5108C is the smallest absolute pressure sensor die on the market at only 0.65 mm2.
Emission Control
To achieve greater emission control, sensors serve as a key component of the evaporative emission control system, which protects the environment from hydrocarbon emissions from the fuel tank. They also help to clean soot particles from exhaust gases by triggering the regeneration of filters in diesel engines such as in Diesel Particle Filters (DPF). For gasoline engines, SMI pressure sensors can also be used for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Especially designed for this harsh environment, the SM2120 Differential Pressure Die is the high quality choice. Designed with protective topside noble metallization, the SM2120 Series Pressure Die is available for OEM product development.
Safety
For safety enhancement, pressure sensors monitor tire pressure (TPMS) and warn the driver when a dangerous loss of pressure is detected and help to deploy air bags in side-impact situations. Pressure sensors can also be used for seat occupancy detection. The SM5420C Series Absolute Pressure Sensor has proven successful with the high performance demanded of TPMS applications.
Comfort
As drivers and passengers increasingly vary in size and flexibility, pressure sensors are used to make driving more comfortable by controlling inflatable air bladders in dynamic seats for better lumbar support. The SM5822 Series provides both an I2C Digital Interface and Amplified output to provide design flexibility. Fully temperature compensated and calibrated, the SM5822 Series is the reliable solution for Driver Comfort.
