SMI’s miniaturization and quality control programs, enabling high yields per wafer,
make their pressure sensors highly suitable for certain consumer applications. SMI
sensors can be used for washers, dryers, dishwashers and refrigerators. SMI’s pressure
sensors are already inside the Navy’s latest heads-up display masks and scuba gear.
Hand held tire pressure gauges and climbing altimeters are also key applications
for SMI sensors.
- White goods: washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators
- Scuba computers and regulators
- Altimeters
- Tire pressure gauges
The level sensor uses a pressure switch to detect the water level
in the tub.
This switch controls how high the tub fills with water.
The altimeter uses the changes in atmospheric pressure to determine the changes
in altitude. Why does pressure change with altitude? Simply put, the pressure at
any given point in the atmosphere around the earth is a result of the weight of
the atmosphere above it (pulled down by gravity).
