The SM5420 Evaluation Kit is designed to show how the uncompensated SM5420 can be calibrated using a basic circuit and a microcontroller (MCU). The basic circuit consists of a thermistor to detect temperature and operational amplifiers that allow amplifying the sensor output and provide an optional level shift to accommodate for negative sensor output voltages. The amplified sensor output is then fed into one of the analog-to-digital converters of a standard MCU. The MCU can be programmed with calibration coefficients so that it can provide a calibrated digital output.
The evaluation kit contains two PCBs, a base board and a sensor piggyback board. The sensor piggyback board can either be plugged into the base board directly or used in combination with the provided extension cable. The communication between the PC running the provided LabVIEW executable and the microcontroller is established through an RS-232 interface.
